Whitewater, Wis. – The men's and women's cross country teams both took home first place finishes on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater's Tom Hoffman Invitational.
Teams in attendance for the women's 6,000m race included UW-Whitewater, Sauk Valley, Clarke, Knox, Wisconsin Lutheran, and Edgewood. Leading the way for UW-Platteville were seniors Johanna Meister, Katie Wardinski, and Janelle Ferguson. Meister came through the finish in second place in 25:04.2. Wardinski crossed in third place at 25:25.2, followed closely by Ferguson finishing in fourth place with a time of 25:31.6. Caitlyn Ifft came in eighth place with a time of 26:09.3. Rounding out the scoring for the Pioneers, sophomore Brenna Kautz finished ninth place crossing the finish line in 26:29.3. The Pioneer women scored 26 points. Finishing among the top 25 in the race, Danielle Nelson and Anna Drazkowski ran for 19th and 21st place respectively.
For the Pioneer men, teams competing in the 8,000m race included UW-Whitewater, Clarke, Wisconsin Lutheran, Lake County, and Dominican. Senior Zach Lee finished in second place with a time of 27:12.1. Third place was Nolan Wallenkamp crossing the finish line in 27:44.0. Zach Klokow finished in fourth place with 28:08.3. Solidifying the first place team finish, seniors Alex Clark and Kyle Herbrand finished in sixth and seventh place respectively. Clark ran 28:26.2 followed close behind by Herbrand who finished in 28:30.9. The Pioneer men scored 22 points. Four other men from the UW-Platteville cross country team placed among the top 25 at the invitational. Senior Mitch Muffler finished at 13th place in 29:00.6. Isaac Schuetz came through in 15th place with 29:17.4. Sophomore Nick Hein clocked 29:32.0 for 16thplace and freshman Jason Voelker placed 25th with a time of 29:57.1.
Next Saturday, September 22, the Pioneers travel to Beloit, WI to compete in the Beloit Olde English Syle Classic. Women will race at 11AM, followed by the men at noon.
