Volleyball defeats Edgewood and Cornell at home on Friday

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Volleyball team defeated Edgewood 25-14, 24-26, 25-20, 26-24 and Cornell 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 in their opening matches of the UW-Platteville Invite.

The Pioneers improve to 6-2 on the season.

In the 3-1 win over Edgewood the Pioneers were led defensively by freshman Stephanie Kalinowski who had 22 digs and three assists. Senior Jessica Duncan had 12 digs and Sophomore Olivia Kudronowicz added 11 digs. Kudronowicz also had 10 kills to record a double double for the game.

Sophomore CJ Johnson ran the offense and tallied 36 assists and four kills (.200 hitting percentage). Senior Katie Jones led the team with 12 kills (.174 hitting percentage).

In the 3-0 win over Cornell the Pioneers hit .216 as a team and held Cornell to -.073. The Pioneers' outside hitters, Kudronowicz and junior Hailey Youngren, were the most efficient and highest volume hitters for the match. Kudronowicz had 10 kills and hit .381 while Youngren had seven kills and hit .278.

The Pioneers play again on Saturday at 1:00 pm against Olivet and at 3:00 pm against Bethany Lutheran.
