  • Pioneers take down Pointers, Headlocking Hunger secures over 4,000 pounds for local food pantry

    PLATTEVILLE, WIS. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team (2-1, 1-1 WIAC) defeated the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (5-2, 0-2 WIAC) Wednesday night in the fifth annual Headlocking Hunger dual in Williams Fieldhouse. The wrestling team won the Headlocking Hunger championship belt while the different Pioneer teams brought in a combined total 4,115.9 pounds of non-perishable food items to be donated to the Pioneer Provisions food pantry on campus.

    The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team will be hosting its annual “Headlocking Hunger” match vs. UW-Stevens Point on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. “Headlocking Hunger” is a collaborative effort among the Pioneer Athletic Department to collect food items in support of Pioneer Provisions, an on-campus food pantry for the students of UW-Platteville. Everyone who brings two non-perishable items will receive free admission to the match.

    MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team had 11 placewinners and five wrestlers finish in the top three of their weight classes at the Auggie-Adidas Invitational hosted by Augsburg University at Si Melby Hall.

    WHITEWATER, WIS. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team (1-1 overall, 0-1 WIAC) fell 27-16 to No. 6 ranked UW-Whitewater (2-1 overall, 2-0 WIAC) Wednesday night in Russell Arena.
  • Pioneers enjoying the benefits of new Athletic Training Room

    Platteville, Wis.- In January of 2019 the University of Wisconsin-Platteville opened its doors to a state-of-the-art addition of Williams Fieldhouse. Inside the new addition are multi-purpose courts, a walking track, and a vary spacious weight and cardiovascular area. Right off the weight room though, is one the most important thing for the approximately 450 student-athletes, the new athletic training room.

  • Strueder and Katzenmeyer shine at Pioneers’ Super 8 Invite

    PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team hosted the 2019 Super 8 Inivite Saturday in Williams Fieldhouse. Sophomore Alexander Strueder claimed the 157-pound title while junior Chase Katzenmeyer took second place after advancing to the championship round at 141 pounds.

    The 2019-20 UW-Platteville Pioneer wrestling team will be anchored by 2019 NCAA national qualifier Lucius Rinehart (Jr. Evansville, Wisconsin). He returns after a successful 2018-19 season and is ranked among the nation’s best at heavyweight after finishing runner up at the WIAC and NCAA Upper Midwest Regional championships last season.
