Pioneers first half rally not enough

BRONX, NY - University of Wisconsin-Platteville played their first game in the Lehman College Coaches vs. Cancer tournament on Friday and fell 62-88 to DeSales University. 

The Pioneers (5-5) weren't able to slow down the Bulldogs (9-2) after trimming the lead down to one in the second quarter. The Pioneers trailed 17-4 with 5:03 in the first quarter and went on a 14-2 run to cut the lead down to 19-18 with 7:43 left in the second quarter. The Bulldogs finished the quarter strong and led 43-30 at halftime.

Sophomore Caitlyn Tipton scored 19 and shot 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from the field while knocking down all five of her free throw attempts. Tipton added three rebounds and three steals. 

Junior Morgan Horstman and sophomore Maiah Domask were the other Pioneers to score in double figures. Horstman had 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Domask had 11 points and seven rebounds. 

The Pioneers face Lehman College at 11 a.m. (EST) on Saturday Dec. 29th.
