Pioneers split pair with Wisconsin Lutheran

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team split Monday's doubleheader against Wisconsin Lutheran 1-0 and 1-6 at the UW-Platteville Softball Complex.

In game one, the Pioneers got on the board early with one run in the first that would hold for the entirety of the game. Alejandra Ochoa led the Pioneers hitting in game one and went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI.

Ashton Hoeppner (W, 5-7) pitched all seven innings in where she recorded eight strikeouts and yielded five hits and one walk. Abby Mahsem (L, 10-5) suffered the loss and struck out three and allowed three hits.

In game two, the Warriors outhit the Pioneers 10-6 to claim the 6-1 victory for Wisconsin Lutheran.

Angela Laabs went 2-for-3 while Rachel Plautz went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Abby Burns (L, 4-5) led off the Pioneers' pitching in the second game and struck out five while allowing 10 hits and five earned runs.  The Warriors' Jessie Rago (W, 6-4) got the win and struck out four while allowing six hits while pitching all seven innings.

The Pioneers are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 17 as they host Loras College at 4 and 6 p.m.
