Rion Rayfield is beginning his first year with the Men’s Basketball team at UW-Platteville as an assistant coach.
Rion comes to UW-Platteville after serving as Otero Junior College Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for one season. He served as Director of Basketball Operations at UW-Green Bay during the 2015-16 season where the team made the NCAA Tournament and prior to UW-Green Bay, he served as assistant coach at Black Hills State University.
Rayfield shares, "I am very excited to be a part of a program with such rich tradition here at UW-Platteville. There have been many great coaches and players that have been a part of this storied program. I am eager to learn from Coach Gard and continue to grow as a coach."
During his playing days, Rayfield attended Florida Southern College where he earned his undergraduate degree. Rayfield finished his career with the Mocs with 1,870 career points and 544 career assists. As of 2017, he holds the program’s records in all-time games played (135) and three-pointers made (364). During his college career he helped the Mocs to four consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, was a member of three Sunshine State Conference Championship teams, and earned NCAA Division II Bulletin Honorable Mention All-American honors.
Originally from Burlington, WI, Rayfield has returned to the Wisconsin area to coach at UW-Platteville.
