Pioneers Win to Close Out D3hoops.com Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Pioneers defeated Johns Hopkins 75-70 to wrap up the D3hoops.com Classic held in Las Vegas. With the win the Pioneers improve to 7-4 on the season.

Quentin Shields, who was voted to the All-Tournament Team, continued his great play with a solid all-around game finishing with twenty-one points, seven rebounds and six assists. Shields was also voted All-Tournament at the Lopata Classic in St. Louis. Justin Stovall had a nice game off the bench contributing eleven points and six rebounds. Carter Voelker, in only his second game back from a broken foot, had solid contributions of fifteen points and five rebounds.

For the game the Pioneers shot 42.4% from the field and 40% from the three-point line. The Pioneers were losing at halftime 31-28 but the team found a will on defense and patience offensively. Offensively instead of looking for quick shots the team was patient and found great looks and defensively made Johns Hopkins work a lot harder offensively.

The Pioneers return to action on the road Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m. at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
