Baseball unable to overcome early deficits to Eagles

LA CROSSE, Wis. – UW-Platteville put up 23 runs in a doubleheader at UW-La Crosse, but was unable to secure a win as they dropped the pair of games 16-12 and 12-11.

In game one the Pioneers strung together 14 hits and had multi-run innings four times, but couldn't get themselves out of the 10-3 hole they had fallen into. Eight of the Pioneers in the starting batting order collected a hit and seven different hitters had an RBI.

UW-La Crosse jumped out to a 9-0 lead in game two before the Pioneers scored five times in their half of the sixth innings and four more times in the seventh. UW-Platteville pitching couldn't keep the Eagles offense in check however as UW-La Crosse took a 12-9 lead in the bottom of the seventh. The Pioneers staged a comeback in the ninth, but left the bases loaded after scoring twice for the 12-11 final.

Ross Krist knocked in three runs in each contest for the Pioneers, grabbing all three of his game one RBI's on his first career homerun. Brennan Kearney added five hits in the doubleheader with three RBI and three runs scored.

UW-Platteville falls to 6-22 overall and 0-12 in the WIAC while UW-La Crosse moved to 16-9, 8-4.
